The European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) was founded in 1983. It is one of the largest a non profit medical association for paediatric infectious diseases and registered in Germany. Since its founding, it has grown to well over 2,500 members with global representation, bringing together clinicians, researchers, and public health professionals dedicated to improving the prevention and management of infectious diseases in children. Infectious diseases remain a major cause of childhood illness worldwide. With emerging pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, and persistent health inequities, the need for strong scientific collaboration and high quality paediatric infectious disease care continues to grow. The vision of ESPID therefore is “A world where every child thrives protected against harm from infectious diseases through innovation, collaboration, and equitable care.”
ESPID recognises that global health and environmental sustainability are closely linked. The society is committed to reducing the environmental footprint of its activities, promoting responsible resource use, and supporting sustainable practices at scientific meetings, in education, in clinical care, and across collaborative projects.
ESPID is led by an elected Board, which provides strategic direction and oversees the society’s activities. The Board consists of s the President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Board Members. The Board works closely with ESPID committees and the Secretariat to deliver the society’s vision & mission.
