Outline of the new ESPID Congenital and Perinatal Infection Course
Course overview
This online course aims to provide training that will increase participants’ knowledge on congenital and perinatal infections. The specific objective of the course is to help you develop competencies relevant to diagnosis and management of the most common congenital and perinatal infections.
Target audience
The course targets primarily Paediatric Infectious Diseases specialists /trainees for whom an in depth knowledge of congenital /perinatal infections is essential. In addition, the course will be open for paediatricians and neonatologists who would be willing to participate and are likely to be confronted by situations that require knowledge in the field.
Course structure
The course is divided into six modules as follows:
· Module 1: Introduction in congenital and perinatal infections, modes of transmission, fetal development and placental function, principles of prevention
· Module 2: Clinical approach to the child with suspected congenital and perinatal infection/Warning signs (Red flags)
· Module 3: Herpes Viruses: CMV, HSV, HHV6-7, VZV
· Module 4: STDs: HIV, HCV, HBV, HPV, Syphilis, Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhea
· Module 5: Non herpes-viruses and Others (Zika, Chagas, Parvovirus, SARS-CoV2, Enterovirus/Parechovirus, Rubella, Toxoplasmosis, TB)
· Module 6: Early onset Neonatal sepsis (bacterial origin /perinatal origin, EColi, Listeria, GBS)
A certificate of completion is available upon completion of all the modules and course evaluation.
